Deemed Universities in AP & Telangana: GMRIT and Malla Reddy Listings Updated; SR Academy Not Yet on UGC List
UGC's list of deemed-to-be universities, checked October 28, 2026, shows nine headquartered in Andhra Pradesh and eight in Telangana. We have corrected GMRIT's listing and now show five Malla Reddy institutions as deemed-university units that admit students outside EAPCET counselling.
Reviewed October 28, 2026 against the University Grants Commission's state-wise list of deemed-to-be universities (ugc.gov.in).
Andhra Pradesh (9): Audisankara, Dr. RVR NRI Institute of Technology, GITAM, GMR Institute of Technology (GMRIT), Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation (KL), Madanapalle Institute of Technology & Science (MITS), Siddhartha Academy of Higher Education, Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning and Vignan's Foundation for Science, Technology and Research.
Telangana (8): Aurora Higher Education and Research Academy, Chaitanya (Hanamkonda), Heartfulness Academy of Research and Innovation, ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education, IIIT Hyderabad, Malla Reddy (MR), Malla Reddy Vishwavidyapeeth and PHFI Institute of Public Health Sciences.
These counts cover each university's headquarters. Campuses of universities headquartered elsewhere, such as BITS Pilani Hyderabad, GITAM Hyderabad and KL Hyderabad, are listed under the parent university.
What we changed:
• GMRIT, Rajam: The institute states that the Ministry of Education notified it as a deemed to be university by letter No. 9-13/2024-U.3(A) dated January 19, 2026, and UGC now lists it. We have corrected its name to GMRIT Deemed to be University. It admits B.Tech students through its own process, not AP EAPCET counselling.
• Malla Reddy (MR) Deemed to be University, Maisammaguda: This is the former Malla Reddy Engineering College (MREC), which we previously listed as a JNTUH-affiliated college. It admits B.Tech students through its own MRJEE entrance test. UGC records an off-campus centre at Krishnapuram village, Renigunta mandal, Tirupati, notified under No. 10-4/2026-U.3(A) dated July 9, 2026.
• Malla Reddy Vishwavidyapeeth, Suraram: Recognised under Notification No. 9-4/2024-U.3(A). Its constituent units include Malla Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences, Malla Reddy Medical College for Women and Malla Reddy Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences. A November 2024 Telangana Today report on the notification also names Malla Reddy College of Engineering for Women. We now list these four as deemed-university units. MBBS seats at deemed universities are filled through Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) deemed-university counselling, not KNRUHS state counselling.
For the five Malla Reddy units, we have removed the fees carried over from their affiliated-college years. Check the current fee with the institution.
Not yet on UGC's list: Telangana Today reported on October 17, 2026 that SR Academy of Higher Education (SRAHE), at Rampally Dayara in Keesara mandal, Medchal district, has been granted deemed-to-be university status by the Union Ministry of Education, quoting its chancellor. SRAHE did not appear on UGC's Telangana list on October 28. We will add it once the notification is published.
Deemed universities do not take part in AP or TG EAPCET convenor-quota counselling. Each university sets its own fees and admission rules, so verify them on its official website before applying.
